KOKOSHNIK

Video, 2:54 min, 2015

In the video I drum continuously and sing a popular Ukranian song 'About the Towel': In this song the protagonist admires the self-sacrifice of her mother who shares love with her child and lets it go with a self-made towel as a sign of luck. The video projection surface is an enlargement of the shape of the traditional Russian head-dress called Kokoshnik. It is associated with a big tall forehead area which is frequently decorated with pearls and flowers. The projected video collage takes on the one hand references to the myth about Medusa Gorgor and to another hand to the subject of self-haircut.
